In the past there were only audio baby monitors, with most of them being analog. After some time, digital audio baby monitors came about, which helped alleviate interference, and making it much more unlikely with a digital monitor. Today there are baby cams, and it still has the audio, but now picture is included. Video baby monitors are essential to enjoy your life, while knowing the baby is safe. They are convenient, because they let you see your baby throughout the day and night. The night vision feature works by having infrared LED’s on the front side of the camera, and most, if not all, video baby monitors have this capability. These video baby monitors use a camera which keeps watch on the baby, and a screened receiver. The screened receiver is sound capable, which means you will not only see what your child is doing, but hear your baby.

There are two types video baby monitors, handheld and stationary. Handheld baby video monitors are great for taking around the house, and are very convenient because the receiver can easily be moved around, so they baby can always be in view. Today, many handheld monitors also have the ability to notice when your baby moves, turning on the screen, which is a helpful feature during the night.

One example of a handheld baby cam is the Svat babyview20 Levana Digital Wireless Video Baby Monitor. This has both the night vision and standby mode, so the video turns off when no movement is captured. It also uses both digital video and audio signals for clear sound and picture. One interesting feature of this monitor is that it plays lullabies, and also has a built-in night light.

The non-handheld video baby monitors are stationary, but these are usually cheaper in price. These are great to conveniently keep an eye out on your baby. While stationary monitors are usually cheaper, but are not easy to move. These stationary video baby monitors have the ability to use only sound during the night, and have no video. Since the screen is bigger, the pictures are expanded, which gives the picture greater clarity in viewing the baby.

One example of a stationary baby cam is the Summer Infant 02580 Color Flat Screen Video Baby Monitor. This uses a 7” color flat screen monitor to view the baby. This baby cam has night vision and has the ability to turn the screen off during the night, if only sound is need. The camera can mount on the wall, but also has a under cabinet mounting, if needed.
